The Downtown Hollister Certified Farmers’ Market starts this week, re-starting the annual celebration of the bounty of local and regional growers over the next five months on Wednesdays from 3-7:30 p.m.
The market, which features farm-fresh vegetables and fruits and other edible treats, runs from May 3 through Sept. 27 on San Benito Street, between Fourth and Seventh streets. It will feature more than 100 vendors. Free parking is available and located in the city parking garage, with access during the market from Monterey and Fifth streets.Â
This weekly event is a true gathering place for the entire community.
Not only will attendees find the region’s best conventional and organic fruits and vegetables, they will also discover seafood, honey, hummus, sausage, olive oil, balsamic vinegars baked goods and salsas.
A wide variety of prepared foods such as barbecue, Mexican food, Indian and Greek food, sandwiches, seafood and thirst-quenching beverages that include lemonade and other fruit concoctions are also available to enjoy at the market or take home. Shoppers will also find handmade soaps and lotions, plants, flower bouquets, jewelry, decorative items for the home and other retail products. Local, nonprofit organizations also join in with information about their program and services.
New to the market this year are: Big Paw Olive Oil Company, Central Coast Shellfish, Hog-tie Catering and several artisan booths featuring handmade yard art, clothing and makeup.
Music and entertainment sets a nice background for the event every week thanks to local DJs and bands. Kids can enjoy face painting and bounce houses.Â
The Downtown Hollister Farmer’s Market distributes EBT tokens for redemption at the program eligible market vendors who also accept WIC coupons.
