The Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area, the first of its kind in California, will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 10 starting at 9 a.m. in the Lower Ranch area.

The SVRA, which opened in 1975, will offer free day use access, history talks, guided tours, music, a parade, and $5 camping on Saturday night.

Guests can register at 9 a.m. for an off-highway vehicle poker run in  the Lower and Upper Ranch. In addition, family-oriented activities, new interpretive displays, other exhibits, and treats food vendors will be offered.

Anne Marie Sayers, chairwoman of the Indian Canyon Mutsun Band, will offer an “olden days chat” at 10 a.m., followed at 11 by a chat with Don and Glenn Harris at the Howard Harris Motorcycle Playground.

Former Hollister Hills Superintendent Don Dungy is scheduled to talk at 1, prior ot the 40th commemoration ceremony from 2:30-3 p.m.

There will be a parade at 3:30 p.m. in the event area.
