In celebration of the life and death of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., the Bethany Community Church will host the MLK Gala, Friday Oct. 5 in the San Juan Oaks Golf Club, 3825 Union Rd. in Hollister.

The black tie event will consist of several performances including gospel singer, Leah Marie, and the Body, Mind, and Soul Kids Choir from Hollister.

This summer, Hollister attorney Elvira Zaragoza Robinson hosted the Body, Mind, and Soul summer service program for low-income children. Every Saturday for six weeks, she met with the children and taught healthy habits for a strong body, mind, and soul.

“It was a wonderful program and a great experience for the kids,” said Robinson.

Through yoga classes, aztec dance lessons, library visits, book discussions, and plenty of singing, the children spent a few hours in a safe, supportive environment.

At the end of their six weeks, Robinson invited the children to sing as a choir at the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Gala.

Reflecting the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., Jaime Rosso from Rosso’s Furniture in Gilroy will receive the Humanitarian Award.

“This year we selected a man that has served our community,” said Gerald E. Harris, pastor, motivational speaker, and keynote address speaker. “One that we want to recognize and salute.”

Tickets for the October gala are $85 per person and can be purchased by contacting Elvira Zaragoza Robinson at (831) 801-5530.
