Police Arrest Suspect for Assault With a Deadly Weapon

At about 7:30 am on March 6, 2014, Officers responded to a report of an in progress disturbance with a suspect brandishing a handgun on the 100 block of East St. The victim reported that a suspect had just pointed a handgun at him and chased him. That suspect was identified as the victim’s neighbor, Michael Robert Wedekind.

Officers arrived on scene and located Wedekind at his residence. Officers recovered a handgun allegedly used against the victim and also recovered a shotgun. During the police investigation, officers were able to review surveillance video that captured the incident in question.
It appears the incident stemmed from a civil dispute between the victim and the suspect.
Wedekind was transported to the San Benito County Jail where he was booked for possessing a handgun in public, brandishing the handgun and assault with a deadly weapon.
