HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – September 30, 2013– On Saturday, September 28, 2013, about 10:00 PM, Hollister Police Officers arrested Jose Avila Jr. (38 yrs) in connection to a stabbing earlier in the evening.

At about 8:30 pm, Hollister Police Officers responded to the 200 block of Miller Road on a report of a fight involving a knife. Arriving officers found a large amount of blood in the driveway of a residence with a blood trail leading away from the home. Two men were detained after being found trying to clean the scene. Several residents and guests of this home denied knowing anything that happened.

A short time later, officers responded to a report of a stabbing victim on Lassen Court, one block east of Miller Road. Officers found a 42-year-old male suffering from several stab wounds about his head and torso. Officers confirmed that the incident on Miller Road was the original crime scene and the victim fled to the Lassen Court address. The victim was flown via CALSTAR to a bay area trauma hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The first responding officers on Miller Road were able to contain the crime scene, collect evidence and identify all persons there. One male resident matched the description given by the witness of the person responsible for the stabbing of the victim. Officers interviewed the suspect, who was subsequently identified by community members.

Jose Avila, Jr. was booked into San Benito County Jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and battery with great bodily injury.
