Hollister residents Connor Halterman and Aileen Bravo received the Willie Mac Award at the Giants Community Fund’s 15th annual luncheon at Oracle Park on Nov. 16. According to a recent press release, the award is the Junior Giants version of the annual honor bestowed upon a San Francisco Giants player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership shown by SF Giants Hall of Famer Willie McCovey throughout his career.

Halterman and Bravo were among 84 Junior Giants players, coaches and team parents recognized for their exceptional leadership. They received all-star treatment with photo opportunities, peer recognition and acknowledgement, and a personalized baseball bat with McCovey’s engraved signature, the release said.

Special guests included Giants alumni Mike “Tiny” Felder, Dave Dravecky, Noah Lowry, Giants mascot Lou Seal and Community Fund board members.

Giants Community Fund is a nonprofit organization that collaborates with the San Francisco Giants by using baseball as a forum to encourage underserved youth and their families to live healthy, productive lives, according to the release.
