A 22-year-old Hollister woman died in a July 30 two-vehicle crash on the corner of Fairview and Comstock roads.
Detective Bryan Penny with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Florali Gabriel-Carrillo.
He said Gabriel-Carrillo was driving a blue Honda Civic west on Comstock Road and investigators believe she failed to make a complete stop before proceeding to make a left turn onto Fairview Road at which point she was struck by a Chevrolet pick-up truck.
The collision occurred about 3:54 p.m.
Penny said the driver of the truck was traveling northbound on Fairview Road and is believed to have been driving about 55 miles per hour. The driver attempted to brake before colliding with the driver-side of the Honda.
According to a California Highway Patrol news release, investigators have not identified the cause of the crash.
CHP said when officers arrived on the scene, Gabriel-Carrillo was unresponsive and despite lifesaving efforts, she died from her injuries.
Penny said the cause of death is pending autopsy examination.
CHP said three other passengers of the Honda were transported to a nearby hospital with suspected injuries and that two of the passengers were juveniles.
Penny said it’s unknown if the driver of the pick-up suffered injuries and if there were passengers in that vehicle.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” said CHP Area Commander Captain Noel Coady. “This incident reminds each of us to always remain attentive while driving. Intersections can be busy with pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Limiting distractions and adhering to traffic laws can help to ensure we all reach our destination safely.”
