Once again the Women’s Club of Hollister is sponsoring “The Backpack Project”. The project supplies backpacks of needed supplies to children infant to 17 years, who are by no fault of their own, taken from their homes and placed in alternative living conditions in San Benito County. Last year the club donated packs to SBC Child Protective Services, The Emmaus House, Chamberlain’s Children Center, Inc, and the SBC Chapter of Kinship Center.
Backpacks are filled with age and gender specific basic toiletries, basic school supplies, a small stuffed animal and a handmade blanket. Aside from giving the children a warm welcome, the backpack gives them a feeling that they are important to many people and they have something of their own.
As in years past, Women’s Club would like to partner with as many local organizations and individuals as possible to help these children. The goal is to provide 100 backpacks. The ways you can help are to sponsor a backpack for $40, collect appropriate items to donate, or just send a monetary donation. Donations should be mailed to the Women’s Club of Hollister, P.O. Box 818 Hollister, Ca. 95024-0818, made out to the club with “The Backpack Project” in the memo line.
If you would like more information or want to have a member of the committee speak to your organization, please contact Cindy Biesemeyer, 831-637-0362 or acbiese@ymail.com.
This project could not happen without community support. We look forward to hearing from you.
