For the first time in city history, Hollister residents will be able to skate on an ice rink this holiday season. The temporary rink will be open from Nov. 29 through Dec. 8, and located on Sixth Street between Wells Fargo and Heavenly Bakery.

Made of synthetic ice, the rink does not operate on water or electricity and can accommodate approximately 50 people at a time.

The rink was made possible by a $21,500 disbursement from the city’s general fund as authorized by the Hollister City Council.

Organizers hope to recoup costs through ticket sales and event sponsorships. They also hope to make the skating rink an annual holiday tradition.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children; ice skates are included in the price. Tickets can be purchased by cash or check at the rink, or in advance at www.webtrac.hollister.ca.gov.

The ice skating rink is part of an initiative by the Hollister Recreation Department to host holiday-themed events in the downtown area ahead of Dec. 7 activities that include Breakfast with Santa from 8-11 a.m., the Home for the Holidays photography event from 1-4 p.m., and the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 8 p.m.

Operating hours for the ice skating rink:

  • Friday, Nov. 29 from 1-6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 30 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 1 from 2-6 p.m.
