According to police, he was seen at the parking lot then arrested on Baler Alley

On Oct. 25 at about 9:22 p.m. Hollister Police Officers responded to reports of a man with a firearm at San Benito High School located on 1220 Monterey Street in Hollister.  
  
According to a press release by the HPD, Officer Melgoza was the first to arrive at the school parking lot near Baler Alley. He located a man who matched the description given by a witness. The male was later identified as Steven Reyes Aguirre, 29.   
  
“Officer Melgoza ordered Aguirre to stop but he refused to obey police commands and fled on foot across Baler Alley while holding something at his waist. He hid behind a storage unit but was quickly located and arrested by Officer Melgoza.  Other officers arrived to assist and a search in the area revealed a loaded handgun where Aguirre had attempted to hide,” the release stated.     

Aguirre was transported to the San Benito County Jail where he was booked for the following charges:   

  • Being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm 
  • Possessing a firearm while on school grounds 
  • Carrying a firearm with intent to commit a felony 
  • Carrying a concealed firearm 
  • Possession of a high capacity firearm magazine 
  • Delaying and obstructing a police officer 
  • Destruction of evidence. 

“Law Enforcement is a partnership with the community and we need our citizens to be good witnesses. It is with their help that we can achieve our mutual goal to make Hollister safer community.  The Hollister Police Department would like to thank those citizens who called police to advise us of this dangerous situation,” said the news release.
