Hollister Mayor Ignacio Velasquez on Monday told the city council that Highway 25 was "taken off the list of future state improvements" but that local cities agreed that "it's too important of a highway to be taken off the list."

During the councilmembers' report section of the meeting, Velasquez said other area cities that are part of the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) gave assurances that they would support the return of the highway to a state funding list "in the next few years."

"Highway 25 cannot be taken off that list," Velasquez said. "If we don't see improvements, we won't see the businesses we need in this community."
