“Imitation Game” is an exceptional film with an astounding cast. The movie tells the true story of Alan Turing, a crypto-analyst during World War II. Turing and his team of mathematicians race against the clock in their mission to crack Enigma, a German code-making machine presumed to be unbreakable.

The movie tells the tale of a man thought to be a machine, who was actually more human than anyone could have imagined. After Turing and his team finally accomplish their seemingly impossible mission and go back to their daily lives, he is prosecuted for being a homosexual and ordered to undergo hormonal therapy. After being put on his new medication, Turing decided to end his life by committing suicide on June 7, 1954. In 2014, Queen Elizabeth II officially announced that Turing had been pardoned.

When viewing the film there was a palpable disgust in the theater about how Turing was treated. The movie sheds light on an unsung hero who was disgraced and unnoticed for years.

“I thought the movie, especially the end when you learn that Alan Turing killed himself, was heartbreaking. You really connect with him and his team and when you learn the cruel things done to him, it’s really just despicable,” said sophomore Annette Lovas.

“I really liked Turing and thought it was awesome how he invented machines and it sucks he didn’t get recognition until now,” freshman Victor Gallo commented.

The film has been nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor In A Lead Role (Benedict Cumberbatch), and Best Actress In A Supporting Role (Keira Knightley). It won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, however that was the only Oscar the film received.

“I thought it was a great cast,” said junior Gerry Nicholas. “I really felt connected to their characters and felt they played their parts well.”
