A screening and reception for “In the Land of Our Ancestors,” featuring Indian Canyon elder and chairwoman Ann Marie Sayers, takes place Nov. 16 at the David Brower Center in Berkeley.
“In the Land of Our Ancestors” is a short documentary produced by Rucha Chitnis and celebrates the life of Sayers, who used the Indian Allotment Act of 1887 to reclaim the land that is now Indian Canyon in Paicines.
“I know who I am, Ohlone people are still here. We are survivors. I do this work to honor our ancestor.” -Ann Marie Sayers.
There’s an opening reception in the lobby with drinks and appetizers from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by the film screening and program featuring Sayers and Corrina Gould.
Tickets are $15 and are available through Eventbrite.
“I love being alive today and seeing all the native peoples really embrace their culture,” Sayers said in the documentary.
