San Benito County Integrated Waste Management will host an Earth Day Celebration event on April 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park at 1023 Memorial Drive in Hollister.

Residents can expect the following activities at the event:

  • San Benito County Board of Supervisors Chair Mark Medina will announce the winners of the Art Poster Contest
  • Announcement of the Sustainability Merit Badge recipients from Boy Scout Troop 436
  • Upcycled Art Workshop by San Benito Arts Council and teaching artist Dustin Kinsley at 11 a.m.
  • Calpulli Itzpapalotl Dance Azteca performance at 12:15 p.m.
  • Kamal Yoga Studio will offer a yoga class from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • Bike Safety Checks by Off the Chain all day! Bring your bike and helmet. Off the Chain will also have electric bicycles for you to try. Driver License is required.
  • Free disposal of unused/expired medications at the San Benito County Public Health Services table all day!

The Earth Day event is also expected to have over 20 partners that will provide interactive Earth Day activities for all ages, and easy ways for residents to be more green and sustainable.

Recology San Benito County is expected to host their Environmental Day activities throughout the day, including free compost giveaway, free paper shredding, and free electronic waste collection for San Benito County residents.

The San Benito County Integrated Waste Management Regional Agency (IWMRA) includes the cities of Hollister, San Juan Bautista and unincorporated San Benito County. The IWMRA was formed in 1995 as a Joint Powers Authority to cost-effectively meet state waste reduction, organics and hazardous waste management enforced by California’s Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) and to improve sustainability for its member jurisdictions.
