San Benito High School has many teachers but the longest tenured teacher is biology teacher William Johnson, who has been a teacher here for 32 years.
The SBHS alumnus had considered becoming a doctor but instead went on to graduate school for biology. Johnson, who graduated from U.C. Berkeley, where he also played football, started teaching at SBHS in 1982. Johnson said, “SBHS changed over time, from buildings being remodeled, and going from 1,200 to now 3,000 students.”
Johnson was involved in many school activities including coaching football, wrestling, mens’ and womens’ golf, and baseball. He was also advisor for Card Club, Bio Science Club, Guitar Club, and a class advisor for various freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior classes. One of Johnson’s students, freshman Kieley Hoskins said, “Mr. Johnson has taught me so much in this first semester and he is one of my favorite teachers.”
“I finally found something I really love, and I love biology,” Johnson said. “I love education and I love people.”
