Hollister Police arrested a juvenile for a burglary and an attempted burglary of downtown businesses.Â
On Monday, April 24 at approximately 3:13 a.m., officers responded to Heavenly Bakery at 601 San Benito St., after a citizen noticed the front door of the business open. Officers discovered a destroyed cash register on the floor and that the business had been ransacked. It appeared someone had broken the door and entered the business taking an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register. Â
Â
At about 7:16 a.m., the owner of the Country Rose Restaurant, located at 756 San Benito St., called police to report damage to a window. Officers also discovered the front door of the business was damaged similar to the bakery but no entry had been made and nothing was taken.
The City of Hollister’s downtown video surveillance system captured a juvenile suspect at both of the crime scenes, police said in a press release. The footage allegedly depicts the suspect kicking in the door at the bakery, entering and leaving a short time later. The footage shows what appears to be the same suspect at the County Rose Restaurant.
Officers Esqueda and Tong, with the help of school resource officers, were able to identify the 17-year-old suspect. Officers responded to the suspect’s home but they were not able to locate him there. However, officers were later called to his attorney’s office where the juvenile was taken into custody in the presence of his attorney and mother. He was booked at the San Benito Juvenile Hall on the charges of burglary and attempted burglary.  Â
Anyone with information about the these crimes are asked to call Officer Esqueda or Officer Tong at the Hollister Police Department at 636-4330. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the WeTip hotline at 800-78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.
