Kelly Freitas Foundation Announces Fourth Annual Golf Tournament

Local scholarship fundraiser sells out every year with fun 'high heel hole'

The Kelly Freitas Memorial Foundation has announced it will host its 4th Annual Golf Tournament and Dinner Party at San Juan Oaks Golf Club on Friday, July 11. This year's event begins with a "rockin on the range" check-in at 10:30 am. followed by a shotgun start at noon.

A barbecue lunch will be provided to all players along with plenty of on-course contests including the famous “High Heel Hole” on hole no. 10, where players must tee off wearing a pair of high heels. This hole represents Kelly’s love for shoes and fashion and has become the signature of the local tournament. Players are also encouraged to wear their best get-ups because at the completion of the tournament there will be a “best dressed award” for the person dressed in the most unique way for the day.

At the conclusion of the golf tournament, a dinner and dance party will feature music by local band, 420 Hudson Street. Golf tournament fees are $150 per player and tickets to the dinner are $45 per person. Entry fees can be paid at San Juan Oaks Golf Course. Registration forms and flyers for the event can be found on the KMF Foundation Facebook page or at sanjuanoaks.com. The Kelly Freitas Memorial was created in memory of Kelly Freitas, wife of San Juan Oaks Golf Clubs Director of Golf, Manny Freitas. Kelly passed away in 2010 from an aggressive form of breast cancer at the age of 31. Since her passing, Manny helped create the Kelly Freitas Memorial Scholarship though an endowment fund at the Community Foundation for San Benito County. The Kelly Freitas scholarship is unique in that it is a four-year scholarship that it goes to a deserving local student living in San Benito County looking to further their education beyond high school. The scholarship board mentors the winner for their journey through college by helping them achieve their education and life goals.
