ASIST is a two-day workshop that teaches how to intervene and save a life from suicide. Over a million people around the world have participated in this award-winning program.
Most people thinking about suicide don’t actually want to die, but they need help deciding to stay alive. You don’t need any prior training to attend ASIST—just a willingness to make a difference.
Participants must attend both days (16 hours total):
- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Thursday and Friday, July 28-29
- Cost of Training: FREE
- Location: Cabrillo College
- 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos
- Facilitators: Alejandra Vargas and Evan Marsh
Each ASIST workshop shares many core features that make up the LivingWorks international standard. Here is what you can expect at your ASIST training:
ASIST values participants’ experiences and contributions and encourages them to share actively in the learning process. Some parts of ASIST take place with all participants together, and others take place in a smaller work group. This helps create a balance between safety and challenge. Participants need not disclose personal experiences to the whole group. Local resources are provided and their availability in the community is discussed.
