January 20, 1953 – May 12, 2026
Elsa Arcilia Rodriguez was born on January 20, 1953, in Harlingen, Texas. She was the third of seven children. She attended local elementary schools and spent her freshman year at Hollister High School before transferring to Monterey Bay Academy, where she graduated in 1972. She later attended Chico State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, and went on to receive her Master’s degree in Multicultural Education from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh.
Elsa dedicated more than 30 years of her life to the Hollister School District as a teacher. During her career, she taught at both Sunnyslope Elementary and Margaret Maze Middle School. While she taught many different grade levels throughout the years, she spent most of her career teaching 3rd grade at Sunnyslope Elementary and 6th grade at Margaret Maze. During the summers, she worked with Mini Corps, continuing her commitment to helping children and families. After retiring from teaching, Elsa continued serving her community as a member of the Hollister School Board from 2010 to 2018.
She was a tough but deeply loving teacher who truly believed in the power of education. Elsa taught from the heart and inspired countless children to believe in themselves and their potential. Beyond the classroom, she was known for her generosity and willingness to give whatever she could to those in need. Fearlessly independent, she traveled alone to places such as Europe and Central America, always eager to experience the world around her. Â She was also a talented puppeteer who often incorporated puppets into her teaching, bringing creativity, laughter, and joy into her classroom.
Elsa was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Noemi Rodriguez. She is survived by her siblings: Azalia Rodriguez of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Arazeli Weimer of Hollister, California; JM Rodriguez (Peter Klement) of Chico, California; Aseneth Quaid (Bob) of San Juan Bautista, California; Filiberto Rodriguez of San Martin, California; and Aaron Rodriguez of Hollister, California. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Jojo Guerrero (Kristin) of Hollister, California; Jenaya Botelho (Michael) of Hollister, California; Jordan Rodriguez (Jessica) of Chico, California; and Mackenzie Peters of Corrales, New Mexico; along with many great nieces, great nephews, and cherished friends.
