Passed Away On: May 29, 2023

Gaylord “Gene” Kogle was born in Wichita Kansas on Oct 28, 1932 to George Francis and Berniece Louise Kogle. He was an only son, and second child.  The family moved to California when Gene was a young boy.  Besides school, Gene had several daily paper routes delivered by bicycle, then scooter…through his grammar and college years.

He graduated with honors from Venice High School in 1951 before attending Santa Monica City College.  He was proud of graduating with a BS in Business Adm. UCLA. 1954; Also, a BS from Cal State in 1960.  He held membership in MENSA, Alpha Kappa PSI Fraternity.  He also completed a year of law classes.   Gene enlisted in the Navy Reserves at USNAS, Los Alamitos, California 1953 until discharged with honors, 1959.

Various employments included: Hughes Aircraft, Texas Instrument, Regional Sales Mgr.  for Sperry Rand in Southern Ca.,  Amperex, Lambda Sales Engineer, Phillips Co.  He also served as Evening Dean- Heald Business College-Monterey, Hollister District-Substitute Teaching and one-year tennis coach at S.B.High. He held a contractors’ and real estate license; also, started flying lessons.  His love was Tennis and Golf. He obtained his pro card in 2006, gave lessons, and built golf clubs. His highlight was marshalling – US Open Golf tournaments in Pebble Beach.   His love of the Lord is evident as a long-standing member at First Presbyterian Church, Hollister.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents George & Berniece Kogle, sisters, Delores and Beverly, his wife- Ruth (married in 1954) and grandson Robert Gene Kogle.

Gene is survived by:  wife, of forty years, Kathy Brashear-Kogle;  is three children by Ruth, Collen Ann Horath, Donald Gene Kogle and Nancy Renee Kogle as well as his two stepchildren, Mark Brashear and Michele West.   Grandchildren consist of Michael Horath, Josie Gillespie-Troub, Chelena Miller, David Kogle, Nina & Nick Banuelos- Kogle and six great grandchildren, Charisma, Aubrey, Tyler, Jack, Robert and Cheyenne.

Memorial Celebration will be held at Presbyterian Church, 2066 San Benito St. Hollister 95023. Sat. June 17, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers please consider donations (tax deductible)
