With his family beside him, Gregory Pape passed away on Sunday, June 28th. Greg was born in Palo Alto, California to Henry and Violet Pape. While growing up in Cupertino he was active in Boy Scouts and band, enjoyed skiing, biking and camping with his family. In high school, he played saxophone in the marching band and a jazz ensemble, competed on the tennis team and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from the University of California at Davis in 1979. While at Davis he met his future wife, Lois, during their freshman year; they went on to be married in July 1981.
Greg started his career in agriculture working for Asgrow Seed Production in Yuba City, CA. He continued seed production at Quali-Sel Seed Company in Salinas. He came back to Asgrow at the San Juan Bautista Station as a Research Assistant for processor tomatoes. While working full-time he went back to school and completed an MBA in Agribusiness at Santa Clara University. He went on to lead the processor program in San Juan; later working with lettuce and spinach. Greg worked in the seed industry for over 40 years – while the companies and the crops changed over the years – he enjoyed the ever-changing challenges of agriculture and the
people that he worked with.
Greg loved being an involved parent. He was Registrar for the Tremors Soccer League for many years and assistant coach for several of the teams. Greg enjoyed long walks with his dog Jethro, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family. In recent years, he loved hiking with his grandchildren and cooking meals for his family.
Greg is survived by his wife, Lois, of Hollister; son Dan (Kylee), daughter Megan (Travis); grandchildren, Griffin and Novalee; sister-in-law Joann; nephew Matt; and his much-loved dog, Jethro. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ron.
Greg’s family invite you to Celebrate his Life on September 26, 2026 at Jardines de San Juan – Third St. in San Juan Bautista – the back patio between 1:00pm and 4:00pm. Memorials can be made to San Benito Community Food Banks or Pet Friends.
