Passed Away On: November 20, 2021
Jose Mena Muya passed away on November 20, 2021 at the age of 79.
He was making progress on his recovery after suffering a stroke, but later died surrounded by loved ones in San Jose, California.
Joe, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Santa Cruz, Zambales, Philippines to Leopolda and Felix Alejandro Muya. He attended Santa Cruz Academy in Zambales and graduated from Far Eastern Aeronautics Technical Institute (FEATI) in Manila. He worked for Maritime Company of the Philippines first as ship electrician then as a motor engineer.
In 1972, he married Amelita in Brooklyn, New York and then moved to Long Island to raise their two daughters. In New York he was a subway car maintainer for the New York City Transit Authority.
In the late 90’s, Jose and Amelita moved to Hollister, California where he worked as a stationary engineer for California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He retired in 2008 to begin his beloved role as a grandfather and to enjoy his retirement years by traveling and tending to his backyard garden and fruit trees.
Jose is survived by his wife of 49 years, Amelita, daughters Arlene (Brandon) and Jocelyn (Joseph), his four grandsons Kai, Ethan, Gabe and Joel and by brothers Fidel, Romeo and Diego, sisters Magdalena, Flor and Dora.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 6 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, December 7, family and friends will meet at St. Benedict Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of the Resurrection. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
