Julian “Felix” Betancourt

Devoted family man, quiet, observant yet witty; An outgoing friend, humorous uncle, mischievous cousin, loving husband, protective father, and a caring grandfather. Boxing Fanatic who enjoyed listening to Clearwater Creedence Revival, Banda and Oldies Music.

Born in Tecuala, Nayarit, Mexico, a quaint shrimping village on the Pacific Coast, about 200 miles North of Puerto Vallarta. He’s parents: Julian Betancourt, a talented furniture carpenter and Francisca Madera Betancourt had three children: Jorge, Felix and Chuy.

The family relocated to Obregon, Sonora, Mexico and later to Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. He completed his Mexican Military Service in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.

Felix and his elder brother Jorge were successful young entrepreneurs, they hand-carved and sold spinning tops and slingshots, then would hang on a string for display. Felix was high-energy and mischievous and would test the slingshots accuracy on their young cousins: Maria, Hilda and Mona.

Felix Immigrated to the USA in 1970 at the age of 22 and made Hollister his home. Married his love Carmen Castillo in 1971. She was his life partner and loving wife of 50 years. He was over the moon, when his daughter Patricia was born. Followed by a wonderful surprise of his daughter Alondra and his miracle son Felix Jr. And his pride and joy, were his five grandsons.

He worked at Almaden Vineyards and retired as a fork-lift driver from San Benito Foods after 28 years. Felix’s acquired skills he had mastered as a forklift driver came useful when making popping wheelies and donuts in his electric wheel chair, which he named “Cadillac”. The spontaneous energy could be seen by our neighbors when he zoomed right by them.

Felix joins his father, Julian Betancourt; his mother, Francisca Madera Betancourt, and brother Jorge Betancourt, in our Lord’s heavenly kingdom.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring eternal wife Carmen Castillo Betancourt; children Patricia Betancourt-Lopez, Alondra Betancourt, and Felix Julian Betancourt Jr. Son-in-law Ricardo Lopez and Daughter-in-law Yvette Betancourt; his grandchildren Alfred Uriah Valencia, Ricardo Lopez-Betancourt, Felix Alexander Betancourt, Cristiano Betancourt, and Joseph Julian Betancourt; Brother Chuy Betancourt. And many beloved cousins, brothers-in-laws, sister- in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
