Ramiro C. Prado
August 16, 1940 to March 8, 2021
Ramiro C. Prado was born on August 16, 1940 and went to be with God peacefully on March 8, 2021 at the age of 80. The fourth of twelve children, Ramiro was from Jaripo Michoacán, Mexico. As a child Ramiro received some school in his pueblo where he learned great penmanship and the ability to draw nicely. Ramiro was also very knowledgeable in mathematics and he would often comment on the school plays that he participated in and the joy that it brought him. He also often shared fond memories of when he served as an altar boy in his pueblo’s parish alongside his childhood friends. Ramiro would balance his schooling at a young age with helping his father plant and harvest crops. At a young age he obtained employment in nearby Purepero Michoacán, Mexico with the Commission of Electricity. He met his soulmate and love of his life Maria Torres in Purepero and married on March 2, 1968. Later that year they moved to Mexico City where Ramiro was employed as a butcher. The Prado’s then moved to California and resided in Huntington Beach, followed by Stockton, and later settled in Hollister where they raised their family.
Ramiro was a very dedicated worker. After working in Mexico City as a butcher, he continued using his meat cutting talents and worked as a butcher in the meat department of local supermarkets including K&S Market, Brother’s Market, and eventually Baler Market until his retirement in 2002. During the 70’s and 80’s, Ramiro held a second position in the Almaden Vineyards in Hollister and also worked in various other agricultural fields alongside his brothers, sisters, father in law, brothers in law, and beloved wife. Ramiro also worked various summers in the 80’s and 90’s alongside his brothers and sisters and family in a catering truck preparing delicious Mexican food serving the agricultural community and he also prepared delicious birria (beef stew meat with a blend of chilies and spices) and catered alongside his beloved wife for over 30 years. Ramiro was also well known for making spicy delicious salsas and his delicious “carne con chile” Mexican beef stew.
Ramiro is loved and appreciated by many. His childhood friends, many of whom he holds a strong bond with till today, refer to him by the nickname “Sicana.” Some additional loving nicknames that family and friends knew him by were “El Primo,” “La Maquina de Fuego,” and “El Tio.” Primo, meaning cousin but also can be used as a term to refer to someone who is appreciated. Primo is a loving gestures that he and his father in law would refer to each other by. La Maquina de Fuego was an inside joke that his eldest grandson had with his grandparents referring to Ramiro’s expression of his burning love for his beloved wife. Obviously, Maquina de Fuego was a topic that made us all laugh at family gatherings. El Tio was a nickname that was obtained during his employment at Baler Market. Various of his nephews also were employed there and referred to him as “tio,” the Spanish word for uncle. Soon after, he began to be referred to as “tio” by pretty much all other colleagues not only because his nephews called him that but because he made all feel appreciated as if he was a family member to all.
Ramiro loved to spend time with all of his family members at gatherings where he was well known to share his funny jokes known as “charritas” and to give a kind loving gesture to all of his loved ones famously known as the “morrongo.” The “morrongo” consisted of a loving gesture which starts by Ramiro making a hand gesture similar to a “hang loose” hand gesture sign but with the thumb of the hand pointing to the top of the loved one’s head, then he would verbalize the phrase “un morrongo” as a warning and he would make a quick soft twist of the hand turning the thumb that was pointing downward to an instant upward position at which point the folded fingers between the thumb and the pinky would softly hit the top of the head of the loved one. The one who received the “morrongo” instantly felt a jolt of love and happiness from Ramiro.
Ramiro’s laughter was contagious and a very unique attribute to him of which many remember him by. One knew Ramiro was present when we heard his laughter, without even having to see him. Ramiro was also known by his various catch phrases such as “uta men” and “hijo del maiz tostado.” Uta men was an expression he would use in various aspects including, but not limited to, when he was happy to see someone, when he would hear news about anyone, when someone would do something for him, or when he would do something to help others. It was almost as a natural reaction go-to phrase for him. As a result, many who know Ramiro also find themselves now using this expression on their day to day. Ramiro was a man filled with life and very well known for the love of music since a young age listening, singing, and dancing a good mambo from artists like Mike Laure and orquestras such as Perez Prado to beautiful ballads and love songs such as his signature love song that he was well known to often sing by the name of “Indita Mia” from artists like David Zaizar. He would also enjoy watching baseball games in his living room, especially when “El Toro” Fernando Valenzuela played for the Dodgers.
Ramiro was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Parish in Hollister. Ramiro was also a member of San Pablo de Colores in Watsonville where he actively served for a period of time in various spiritual retreats called “cursillos” after living his own cursillo in 1980. As he was receiving his sacrament of the Ointment of the Sick on February 21, 2021, he was asked by Father Claudio what he would like to tell his children and his response was to not let go of the Cursillo and to always serve God.
His family was his joy and he is survived by his sons and daughters Alma Rosa Medina (Armando), Ramiro Prado Jr. (Socorro), Sergio Prado, Abraham Prado (Deysi), and Julie Prado (Billy).
Grandchildren Armando Medina Jr. (Leah), Adrian Medina, Andres Medina, Andrew Amaya, Briana Prado, Stephen Prado, Nathan Prado, Ramiro Prado III, José Luis Prado, Emilio Prado, Sergio Prado Jr., Devonna Prado, Savonna Prado, Abraham Isaac Prado, Kamila Guilliet Prado, Galilea Prado, Noe Prado, Carlos Prado, and Leighla Prado.
Great grandchildren Benji Medina, Ava Medina, Abram Mateo Medina, Aralynn Medina, Jazlynn Prado, Adriel Prado, Gilbert Prado, Javier Prado, Jayla Maria Prado, Anastasia Amaya, and Noa Amaya.
Brothers and Sisters Pedro Prado (Vanje), Elisa Salcedo (Manuel), Elena Maravilla (Efren ), Leticia Estrada (Jose), Esperanza Sanchez (Ignacio ), Bernardo, Jose, Ramon (Lilia) as well as many other family members including many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ramiro is preceded in death by his beloved wife Maria Torres Prado whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on March 2, 2018 before she went to be with God on July 30, 2018. Ramiro is also preceded in death by his parents, Bernardo and Esperanza Prado, brother Rafael Prado, and sisters Ester Prado and Edelmira Avila Prado all of whom he adored and are now celebrating his homecoming.
Ramiro had a large extended family and everyone who met him became his friend. Ramiro was loved so much and will be dearly missed. The family is grateful with God for having him in our lives and teaching us so many great values and filling us with love.
A rosary service will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at Black-Cooper-Sander Funeral Home at 4:00pm. Viewing will begin at 2:30pm. Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 11:00 am at Saint Benedict’s Parish in Hollister.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and state public health guidelines, the Holy Rosary and Mass in person will be private. Therefore, the family will also have the Holy Rosary and Mass live virtually. A celebration of life for Ramiro will be determined soon, as the COVID-19 situation improves, in which the family would appreciate having the presence of all his loved ones.

Ramiro C. Prado nació el 16 de agosto de 1940 y se fue a estar con Dios pacíficamente el 8 de marzo del 2021 a la edad de 80 años. El cuarto de doce hijos, Ramiro era de Jaripo Michoacán, México. Cuando era niño, Ramiro recibió escuela en su pueblo donde aprendió una gran caligrafía y la habilidad de dibujar bien. Ramiro también era muy conocedor de las matemáticas y a menudo comentaba sobre las obras de teatro escolares en las que participaba y la alegría que le producían. También compartía a menudo buenos recuerdos de cuando sirvió como monaguillo en la parroquia de su pueblo junto a sus amigos de la infancia. Ramiro balanceaba su escuela a una edad temprana con ayudar a su papa a plantar y cosechar en el campo. A temprana edad obtuvo un empleo en el cercano pueblo de Purepero Michoacán, México en la Comisión de Luz. Conoció a su alma gemela y el amor de su vida María Torres en Purepero y se casaron el 2 de marzo de 1968. Más tarde ese mismo año se mudaron a la Ciudad de México donde Ramiro trabajo como carnicero. Luego, los Prado se movieron a California y vivieron en Huntington Beach, seguido de Stockton, y luego se establecieron en Hollister, donde criaron a su familia.
Ramiro fue un trabajador muy dedicado. Después de trabajar en la Ciudad de México como carnicero, continuó usando su talento en los cortes de carne y trabajó como carnicero en supermercados locales, incluhiendo K&S Market, Brother’s Market y, finalmente, Baler Market hasta su jubilación en el 2002. Ramiro es muy querido y apreciado por muchos. Sus amigos de la infancia, muchos de los cuales aun mantenía un fuerte vínculo hasta el día de hoy, se refieren a él con el sobrenombre de “Sicana.” Algunos apodos cariñosos adicionales por los que familiares y amigos lo conocían eran “El Primo,” “La Máquina de Fuego,” y “El Tío.” Primo, que también puede usarse como un término para referirse a alguien que es apreciado, es un gesto amoroso con el que él y su suegro se referirían. La Máquina de Fuego fue una broma interna que tuvo su nieto mayor con sus abuelos refiriéndose a la expresión de Ramiro de su ardiente amor por su amada esposa. Evidentemente, Maquina de Fuego era un tema que nos hacía reír a todos en las reuniones familiares cuando se trataba. El tío fue un apodo que obtuvo durante su empleo en Baler Market. Varios de sus sobrinos también estaban empleados allí y se referían a él como “tío.” Poco después, casi todos los demás colegas lo llamaron “tío,” no solo porque sus sobrinos lo llamaban así, sino porque todos se sentían apreciados por el como si fuera un miembro de la familia para todos. A Ramiro le encantaba pasar tiempo con todos los miembros de su familia en reuniones donde era bien conocido por compartir sus chistes divertidos conocidos como “charritas” y por dar un gesto amable y amoroso conocido como el “morrongo” a todos sus seres queridos. El “morrongo” consistía en un gesto amoroso que comienza con Ramiro alzando la mano con el pulgar de la mano apuntando a la parte superior de la cabeza del ser querido y doblaba un poco los demás dedos, luego verbalizaba la frase “un morrongo” como advertencia y él hacía un rápido y suave giro de la mano girando el pulgar que apuntaba hacia abajo a una posición instantánea hacia arriba, momento en el que los dedos doblados golpeaban suavemente la parte superior de la cabeza del ser querido. El que recibía el “morrongo” instantáneamente sentía un caloroso afecto de amor y alegría por parte de Ramiro.
La risa de Ramiro era contagiosa y un atributo muy único de él por el que muchos lo recuerdan. Uno sabía que Ramiro estaba presente cuando escuchamos su risa, sin siquiera tener que verlo. Ramiro también era conocido por sus diversas frases como “uta men” e “hijo del maíz tostado.” Uta men era una expresión que usaba en varios aspectos, incluidos, entre otros, cuando estaba feliz de ver a alguien, cuando escuchaba noticias sobre alguien, cuando hacían algo por él o cuando él hacía algo para ayudar a otros. Era como una reacción natural para él. Como resultado, muchos de los que conocen a Ramiro también se encuentran ahora usando esta expresión en su día a día. Ramiro fue un hombre alegre, lleno de vida, y muy conocido por el amor a la música desde muy joven escuchando, cantando, y bailando un buen mambo de artistas como Mike Laure y orquestas como la de Pérez Prado hasta hermosas baladas y canciones de amor como la canción de amor que solía cantar con el nombre de “Indita Mia” interpretada por artistas como David Zaizar. También disfrutaba mucho los partidos de béisbol en su sala, especialmente cuando “El Toro” Fernando Valenzuela jugaba para los Dodgers.
Ramiro era miembro de la Parroquia Sagrado Corazón / San Benito en Hollister. Ramiro también fue miembro de San Pablo de Colores en Watsonville, donde sirvió activamente durante un período de tiempo en varios retiros espirituales llamados “cursillos” después de vivir su propio cursillo en 1980. Hermanos y hermanas Pedro Prado (Vanje), Elisa Salcedo (Manuel), Elena Maravilla (Efren ), Leticia Estrada (Jose), Esperanza Sanchez (Ignacio ), Bernardo, Jose, Ramon (Lilia) así como muchos otros miembros de la familia incluido varios primos, sobrinas, y sobrinos.
Ramiro es precedido por miembros de la familia que se le adelantaron y ya están con Dios incluhiendo su amada esposa María Torres Prado con quien celebró 50 años de matrimonio el 2 de marzo del 2018 antes de que ella fuera a estar con Dios el 30 de julio del 2018. También por sus padres, Bernardo y Esperanza Prado, su hermano Rafael Prado y hermanas Ester Prado y Edelmira Ávila Prado, a quienes adoraba y ahora celebran su regreso a casa.
Ramiro tenía una gran familia extendida y todos los que lo conocieron se convertían en sus amigos. Ramiro fue muy querido y será profundamente extrañado. La familia está agradecida con Dios por tenerlo en nuestras vidas y por enseñarnos tantos grandes valores y llenarnos de amor a través de él.
Se llevará a cabo el Santo Rosario el lunes 22 de marzo del 2021 en Black-Cooper-Sander Funeral Home a las 4:00pm. La visitación comenzará a las 2:30pm. La misa se llevará a cabo el martes 23 de marzo del 2021 a las 11:00am en la parroquia de San Benito en Hollister. En seguida nos iremos al Calvary Cementerio en la Calle Hillcrest.
Debido a la pandemia COVID-19 y las guías de salud pública del estado, el Santo Rosario y la misa en persona serán privados. Por eso, la familia también contará con los servicios del Santo Rosario y la Misa de manera virtual en vivo. Una celebración de vida para Ramiro se determinará próximamente al mejorar la situación del COVID-19 en la cual la familia apreciaría contar con la presencia de todos sus seres queridos.
The visitation will be on Monday, March 22, 2021 from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM with the rosary recitation at 4:00 PM at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Mass will be on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
