Local Agency Work Gains Celebrity Attention and National Exposure for Rare Disease Day 2015

Profile of 12-year-old PHA survivor gains national celebrity attention on Twitter, highlighting work from local agency Redbeard Communications

Hollister, CA—February 24, 2015—The stars have aligned for local ad agency, Redbeard Communications based in Hollister, CA. The agency produced a story for client, First Entertainment Credit Union, which exposed 12-year-old PHA survivor and brought national attention to Rare Disease Day. The entertainment industry and celebrities Laura Dern and Courteney Cox are now rallying for the cause. Even Nasdaq gave a shout-out with a Tweet last week to its 388,000 followers.

The story features 12-year-old Lucas Van Wormer, who suffers from the rare debilitating disease of the lungs that affects the functioning of the heart and can lead to heart failure. Without treatment the average survival rate is only 2.8 years.

Lucas’ story appears in the $1.2-billion First Entertainment’s quarterly newsletter, The Show (Firstenttheshow.com), produced by Redbeard Communications in Hollister, CA. The video profile tells the story of Lucas’ fight against the disease, and how he is winning. It also addresses how Lucas’ father, Steve, a senior producer and writer at FOX Sports, has not only partnered with his son in the fight, but also how he works with Lucas in the entertainment industry.

The story also explains how Steve is working to raise awareness of pulmonary hypertension—creating a worldwide campaign, including driving awareness of Rare Disease Day 2015, which takes place Feb. 28.
