Hollister rock band Racing Time will be making an appearance Jan.27 at the 35th annual Mission 10 Race. The band is scheduled to perform at 10 a.m.
Consisting of three players, Ian Ellis (17) on guitar and vocals, Mannie Ascensio (16) on bass guitar and vocals, and Isaiah Ramirez (14) on drums, the band has only played small shows and took part in the recent Hollister Downtown Association’s Lights on Celebration parade, where they built a float and played music for parade goers.
The band was first formed in the fall of 2016, when Ellis and Ascensio decided to start a band. The two began playing together at Ellis’ house and had played a couple shows, but were missing a drummer and having a very hard time finding one. At the end of summer of 2017, the two stumbled upon Ramirez. Ramirez was originally going to be another guitar player for the band, but when Ellis and Ascensio noticed Ramirez’s skill behind the drum kit, they quickly recruited him to become the band’s drummer.
The band primarily writes and performs their own music and are influenced by bands like Green Day, Blink 182, Weezer, Nirvana, and Misfits, giving them an upbeat rock sound.
“I would describe our sound as a younger, and more upbeat version of rock; we just want people to have fun at our shows,” said Ellis.
For now, the band is focused on building a fan base and gaining popularity around Hollister and through social media. They can be followed on their instagram account @racingtimeig. To learn more: facebook.com/racingtimeband/
