When Lisa Robinson’s first child was born, a hobby became a passion, which soon turned into a career. Wanting to be sure that she had quality photos of her son, Robinson became self-taught at capturing the perfect photo. Today, ten years from the start of her business, Robinson has gained national recognition and been awarded the 2018 and 2015 pick for The Knot's "Best of Weddings” and was recently named in the top "32 wedding photographs of 2017 " by The Huffington Post. In 2016 she was featured on The Today Show for photographing her own delivery of her second child, Anora Wren. Robinson has done special projects over the last few years for BenitoLink.
Robinson’s photography career started out with her taking portraits for customers in her home studio. Eventually this led her to take photos for businesses and weddings. She captured her first wedding when friends insisted she be their wedding photographer. Though initially hesitant to branch into the wedding genre, capturing her friend's wedding led to Robinson finding her true passion. Robinson’s husband, Alec Ward, was so confident in her abilities, he signed her up for the nationally recognized wedding website, The Knot as a wedding photographer without her knowledge. “If it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t be doing this," she said crediting his support for helping her to get to this point in her career.
Her favorite aspects of shooting weddings Robinson says is being able to be, “a lot more creative,” in her approach to taking photographs, like candid shots capturing key moments of the big event. Today, she could be doing a wedding in Europe, capturing a newlywed couple with San Jose’s cityscape in the background, or taking photos for intimate weddings such as elopements. Robinson’s goal is to make “beautiful, affordable wedding photos for everybody”.
As you can see on Lisa Robinson’s professional website, her business now extends far beyond weddings. She takes on news assignments, business portraits, engagement photos, kids’ portraits, maternity pictures, and much more. Looking into the future, Robinson says she wants to continue adding more weddings to her portfolio locally in San Benito County and with destination weddings. Robinson would also like to branch out into taking more birthing photographs. As Robinson said, "You have to capture memories as they're happening," since it is, "important to capture family and friends".
BenitoLink is fortunate to work with Robinson as a team member and be able to share her skill with our community of BenitoLink readers. She can be seen around the county covering special projects like the county fair, parades or events and is currently working on a series of photos for our new Sponsor Highlight section profiling new BenitoLink sponsors on our home page.
