The holidays can be a hard time for foster children but with the help of generous community groups, Chamberlain’s Children Center makes the holidays bright for the children in our care. Our kids receive community support throughout the year; however, many people go out of their way to help us during Christmas.

This year was another year that our organization is grateful for the groups who look out for our kids. Hollister Rotary Club made sure that some of our kids basic needs where being met this season with a holiday underwear drive. For the second year in a row, Turning Wheels for Kids supplied a bike for each child who doesn’t have one.

The employees at Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company took time out of their busy schedules to bring a Christmas party to our kids this year. Not only did they provide a present for each of our children, but they also brought a tree for everyone to decorate and snacks for everyone. It was very thoughtful of them to furnish a total Christmas experience that way.  A couple of teachers at local schools collected items for our children this year so that they will have some gifts to unwrap on Christmas morning. Anzar High School and Marguerite Maze Middle School collected gifts and stocking stuffers for our kids this year. Several groups held toy drives on our behalf to provide items for Christmas morning as well.

Alvin Harrison, Olympic Medalist Track Star, recently put on a 5k/10k R.U.N. for Christ, R.U.N. to God marathon encouraging participants to donate food and gifts to benefit Chamberlain’s kids and another local organization. The Faultline Derby Devils held a toy drive for our teenage girls for the second year in a row. Soul Kiss, a popular local band that can often be seen at Ridgemark worked with the local venue to coordinate a drive that raised money for gift cards. The Gift, a program through Monterey County Social Services Agency requests specific items that our kids are hoping to receive on the holiday and fulfills that wish for each child.

The list of individuals who have thought about our children this season is a long one, one that will continue to grow as we get approach the holiday. With all of the support we have received this year for the holidays; our children are guaranteed to have a great holiday season filled with fun and laughter.

We are grateful for everyone who contributes towards making the holidays special for our children! Holidays at Chamberlain’s would not be nearly as special without the heart and spirit of the community adding to the cheer.
