Locals reminded to vaccinate their pets

Notice from local animal care officials prompted by positive rabies test in Monterey County cat

The Hollister Police Department Animal Care & Services Bureau is reminding residents to vaccinate their pets. Additionally, just as important would be the reporting of animal bites or wild animal contact, particularly if a wild animal displays "altered behavior," officials said.

This reminder, released on July 9, was prompted by a cat testing positive for the rabies virus in Monterey County recently.

Low-cost rabies vaccination clinics on the first, second and fourth Saturday of each month are held at Lil Pals Pet World, 401 McCray St. in Hollister. Call (831) 636-9926 for more information.

People who have questions or concerns or suspect an animal to be infected with rabies are asked to call the Hollister Police Animal Care & Services Bureau at (831) 636-4320.

The Hollister Police Departments Animal Shelter is located at 1331 South St. in Hollister.
