On Sunday, Aug, 7, Hollister police officers arrested Michael Cranton, 32, for an attempted armed robbery of a pregnant woman at an ATM.

At about noon that day, officers responded to the 200 block of McCray Street regarding an interrupted armed robbery. The alleged victim was a pregnant female that had just withdrawn cash from an ATM, according to a press release from the HPD. Officers say the suspect approached the woman, brandished a crowbar and demanded the cash. The woman’s husband was nearby and saw what was happening. He confronted the suspect and attempted to detain the suspect for police. A struggle ensued and the suspect fled in a white Nissan car. The suspect discarded the crow bar at the scene, police said.

Officers responding to the attempted robbery report noticed a vehicle matching the description and conducted a vehicle stop on the 400 block of San Felipe Road.

The driver, Cranton, was identified as the suspect and arrested without incident. He was booked into the San Benito County Jail for 664/211 PC-Attempted Armed Robbery and 1203.2 PC- Probation Violation, $70,000 bail.

Cranton is currently on felony probation stemming from an incident in 2014 where he pled no contest to striking another person in the head with a crowbar and causing great bodily injury.
