A selection of instruments students can learn to play at Mission City Music.

Mission City Music will officially open its doors for business at 410 Third St. in San Juan Bautista on Monday, Aug. 7, offering private lessons in multiple instruments such as piano, guitar, ukulele and voice. Owner Tamilla Macklin studied music in Japan in her youth and at Monterey Peninsula College after high school and has taught lessons in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties prior to settling down in San Benito County.

Though still a “20-something,” Macklin brings a wealth of musical training, experience and passion to her storefront music program in San Juan Bautista. According to the Mission City Music’s Facebook page: “Mission City Music provides group and private music lessons to all ages. Learn that instrument you’ve always wanted to play!”

Macklin offers beginning and advanced courses or services in the following:

Private and group music lessons for adults and children

  • Guitar
  • Piano
  • Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass
  • Voice
  • Ukulele
  • Song writing
  • Music theory

There is an $80 new student special for the first month of private lessons. People who sign up for August lessons this week can start making music before school starts. Drop-in lessons are $30.
