San Benito High School's eight-time defending Central Coast Section champion softball team shut out Homestead on Saturday, May 24 to earn a trip to the semifinals at Police Athletic League (PAL) Stadium in San Jose. A few hours later, Baler baseball's hopes of returning to the CCS semifinals were thwarted by a sixth inning home run that sent Archbishop Mitty to a 4-3 win at Washington Park in Santa Clara.

The super sophomore pair of Suzy Brookshire and Callee Heen each hit three-run, inside-the-park homeruns to power Baler softball to the shutout at the Salinas Sports Complex, which awaits word of the day and time of its semifinal game.

Baler baseball got two hits and an RBI from senior shortstop Andrew Breen, two hits from junior center fielder Garret Kelly, and and RBI single by freshman first baseman Drew Williams, who was making his first career varsity start. San Benito and Mitty were tied at 3-3 until the sixth inning when 215 pound Luke Rasmussen hit a deep homerun to left field off junior reliever Tommy Hernandez, who surrendered just two hits in four innings of work. The Balers had one more shot to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, but were retired in order.

The baseball team finishes its season with a Monterey Bay League championship and an overall record of 22-7, including a 17-1 league mark and a 10-0 record at home.
