The City of Hollister hopes for a sequel to its summertime Movies in the Park event. The Hollister Downtown Association used to offer one screening a week for 14 weeks, but city budget cuts and lack of sponsorship shelved it.
This year, officials hope to hold their event and Dunne Park on West and Seventh streets in Hollister. They plan to screen the Disney movie "Big Hero 6" on July 17 and "The Goonies" on Aug. 7. They are also looking for local vendors to set up on Seventh Street and sell food and refreshments. FunFlicks will be providing the screen and projector and Swank Movie Productions will be permitting the licensing.
Recreation Supervisor Tina Garza said, “we want to offer something for the kids to come together that is exciting.”
But the program needs a little help first. They are looking for sponsorships to help them raise the necessary funds so they may acquire the licensing and additional necessities that they need. The cost per screening to cover the event will come out to be $1,000. In order for a community event to come together, the community, itself, must come together, organizers say.
