The smooth tones of trombones and saxophones flowed down San Benito Street on Saturday, July 19, as the annual Street Festival & Car Show got under way. The music was provided by Mr. O's Jazz Band, directed by founder Joe Ostenson.
The band began their set at 10 a.m. and played for an hour, performing classic songs such as Mambo Number 8, Sentimental Journey, and Green Onions.
Mr. O's Jazz Band consists primarily of members of the Hollister community, ranging in age from 14 to those in their 60s and 70s. Members play woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. The band is open to anyone with music experience. Rehearsals take place Thursday evenings at the Academy, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
