The Associated Student Body of San Benito High School is sponsoring its annual benefit drive, when staff and students nominate local individuals or families that are in need. This year, 2002 SBHS grad Arick Romo was selected as the beneficiary.
In 2014, Romo's life was dramatically changed when he was in a near-fatal car accident that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. While Romo was in a care facility, his wife gave birth to their daughter. Romo and his family are in need of financial assistance to retrofit their home and his wheelchair to meet his needs.
The main fundraiser this year will be "Mystery at the Vault" on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. The event, at 452 San Benito St., will feature a no-host bar, dinner and silent auction to benefit Romo and his family.
And don't forget the mystery, which will be performed by Mysteries for Hire, a murder-mystery company from the San Francisco Bay area. The interactive murder-mystery happens all around the audience throughout the event. The guests interact with the actors trying to discover who the culprit is. What is unique about this event is nothing is scripted and everything is improvised. Guests can participate as much as they want or sit back and simply enjoy the show.
Tickets for the event are $55 each and are available at Domino's Pizza at 601 McCray St., the San Benito High School Student Payment Center in the main administration building (during school days/hours), or by calling 408-804-0407. Tables of 10 are still available for purchase.
