Dear staff, students, and greater SBHS school community:
On Jan. 3, the spring semester at San Benito High School District kicked off with a professional development day for all certificated staff members – followed by students arriving for classes on Jan. 4. The spring semester contains many exciting events and activities and we look forward to continuing our support of staff and students during the 2016-17 school year.Â
The entire administrative team is committed to assuring the needs of staff and students are met both in and out of the classroom. To support our mission of preparing students to thrive in school and beyond, we must encourage students to be strong role models and engage in a multitude of endeavors. Our diverse educational and extracurricular programs will make this mission a reality. The Baler Spirit is alive and well on campus.Â
There is no question that SBHS stands out in terms of our pride, spirit, and fortitude. We offer a wide variety of electives and Visual and Performing Arts classes, robust student support, and individual college counseling: all rare among public schools. However, what really stands out for me, personally, is that our school is committed to teaching students the skills needed to grow into the future leaders of our counties and nation. Students feel engaged and challenged at SBHS because they are supported by a caring staff who work above and beyond every day to meet the needs of our students.Â
The San Benito High School leadership team has refocused our efforts in the areas of academics, instruction, and support; we are building a three-year strategic plan that actualizes our mission, vision, and priorities. Facility upgrades and construction are ongoing as we finalize Measure G projects and plan for upcoming Measure U projects. On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Board of Trustees will be conducting a special board meeting to review our projects-to-date and to begin setting construction priorities for the coming years. he meeting will be held in the Davis Library from 5-8 p.m.
Our commitment to staff and students is unwavering, as is our pledge to provide a safe, rewarding, and positive experience for all. The future is bright for SBHS; we seek to provide the skills necessary for our students to succeed in life, as well as learn how to be a meaningful contributor in an increasingly complex world. I am confident in the ability of SBHS to prepare students to answer this call. Please know that my door is always open.
My best,
Shawn Tennenbaum, Interim Superintendent
