Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) released the following statement regarding his Jan. 13 appointment to the House Natural Resources Committee.

“I’m honored to be appointed to the House Natural Resources Committee and look forward to working under the leadership of Ranking Member Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) to advocate for conserving our oceans and coasts, fisheries, wildlife, outdoor recreation opportunities, national parks, public lands, marine sanctuaries, and more.

“California’s Central Coast is home to irreplaceable natural resources, including Pinnacles National Park, Los Padres National Forest, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Clear Creek to name a few. Not only are these public spaces vital for our enjoyment, environment, health, and our area’s world-class universities and marine-research institutions, they’re also critical for the Central Coast’s $2.5 billion travel and tourism industry, which relies on healthy oceans and pristine natural resources to attract travelers from around the world.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to bring people together to move forward on innovative solutions to protect our environment and unspoiled natural resources for our children, Central Coast families, and future generations.”

Earlier this week, Congressman Panetta was appointed to the House Agriculture Committee and joined the Pro-Choice Caucus and LGBT Equality Caucus.
