Pet Friends invites community to the 5th Annual Fur Ball Dinner and Auction

The event helps the no kill-shelter with year-round expenses

Pet Friends invites the community to the 5th Annual Fur Ball Dinner and Auction March 24. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. attendees can enjoy an evening of music, delicious three-course dinner, drinks, Silent Auction, and great conversation with fellow animal lovers from the community. The event will be held at San Juan Oaks Golf Club and all proceeds from event go to Pet Friends, who relies 100% on donations and no government funding.

Inspired by a Fur Ball event hosted in New York city by the daughter of fashion designer, Ralph Lauren, board members Sally Crisman and Barb Ament said, "Hey we can make this Fur Ball happen with our own flair, for our small hometown of Hollister."

Started in 2013, the Pet Friends Fur Ball event is the largest fundraiser for the shelter, who rescues abandoned, stray and homeless pets from the Hollister Animal Shelter.

The pets, "reside with Pet Friends and are lovingly cared for until they can be adopted and matched with their 'furever home'," said board member Mariah Giunta.

The shelter uploads photos of pets that are available regularly on their Facebook page.

The shelter also has a low cost spay and neuter clinic, where a large part of their work is provided for local feral cats to help effect overpopulation of pets including feral colonies.

In 2017 Pet Friends was able to have 96 homeless, stray, or abandoned Pets adopted to loving "furever" homes as well as 200 dogs, 205 cats and 311 feral animals spay & neutered to help impact over population in our county. "Since we have been serving the San Benito County we have placed over 3,338 Rescue Pets in loving homes and have provided over 4,730 spay and neuter services, many being feral cats," said Giunta.

"It has been thirty years since we began this journey, along with the bumps in the road there have been many more successes and accomplishments, however, we have only begun…we will not be finished until there are no more homeless, unwanted cats and dogs," their website says.
