Petition leads to street name change

Hollister City Council approves change from Hazel Street to Comienzo Drive

The Hollister City Council on Oct. 20 unanimously approved residents' request to rename Hazel Street to Comienzo Drive, following a request and petition the city said came from "a majority of property owners and residents" along the street.

The one-block street runs east to west between Prospect Avenue and Sally Street, near the downtown cannery. A report to the council said the city recommended the name "Comienzo," meaning "beginning" after "carefully analyzing potential street names."

The council approved the change without discussion.
