Pinnacles Condor Fund receives gift in memory of local reporter Kate Woods

As a long-time San Benito County resident, Woods was adamant about preserving and protecting the natural heritage of her home.

An anonymous donor has made a generous gift to the Pinnacles Condor Fund in memory of local reporter Kate Woods. As a reporter for The Pinnacle, an independent weekly newspaper based in Hollister, Woods covered the Pinnacles Condor Project with a depth and commitment. She and the paper supported the return of condors to Pinnacles, and her articles, typically featured on the front page, reached a wide audience, many of whom had otherwise limited exposure to condors and the park. Beyond condors, Woods’ writing recognized the value of Pinnacles as a hotspot for biodiversity and a sanctuary for a number of plant and animal species. As a long-time rural resident of San Benito County, Woods was adamant about preserving and protecting the natural heritage of her home.

"We at the Pinnacles National Park Foundation are pleased to accept this gift in memory of Ms. Woods that honors her passion for Pinnacles National Park and the iconic California condor. The donors' generosity will provide for critical needs in the continuing recovery of the California condor at Pinnacles National Park where more than 40 birds now fly free," said Executive Director of the Pinnacles National Park Foundation, Jennifer Westphal. "As the philanthropic partner to Pinnacles National Park, it is our honor to provide a means for those wishing to make a gift in honor or memory of those they love that creates a lasting impact at Pinnacles National Park for the benefit of its wildlife, ecosystems, historic resources, and for all who will visit in the future."

The Pinnacles Condor Fund is a dedicated fund that supports the unmet needs of the Condor Recovery program at Pinnacles National Park. Anyone wishing to make a gift can do so by sending an email to [email protected] or donating online at www.pinnaclesfoundation.org. Gifts can also be made by check and mailed to: Pinnacles National Park Foundation PO Box 2080, Hollister, CA 95024
