The Pinnacles National Park Annual Photo Pass Contest beginning May 25 is seeking submissions of scenic or wildlife photos from the park. The contest winner will have his or her photo featured on the park’s 2015 annual pass. Other prizes including runner-up photos featured on the park’s Facebook page. Here are the contest rules, which are also available by clicking here:
Â
There are two categories open for judging:Â
Â
1) ScenicÂ
2) WildlifeÂ
Â
The photo(s) must have been taken by you in Pinnacles National Park after January 13th, 2013.Â
Minor alterations are allowed at the discretion of the judges.Â
Â
Photos of people: Do not submit photos that clearly identify people. This opens multiple legal issues aboutÂ
whether or not the people in the photo have granted permission to have their image used in a publicÂ
forum. If you choose to share a photo with a person(s) who is unidentifiable in it, please keep these photosÂ
appropriate to the family-friendly nature of our Facebook page. People in the photos must beÂ
demonstrating good stewardship of the parks and enjoying the parks in a manner consistent with theÂ
laws, rules, and mission of the National Park Service. Inappropriate photos will be deleted.Â
We will start accepting submissions on May 25, 2014 at 12:00 a.m. PST, and the contest will run until June 22,Â
2014. The last possible time to submit a photo will be June 22, 2014 at 5 p.m. PST.Â
Â
Each fan may submit up to three photos and you may submit the same photo for differentÂ
categories. That is, if you have a beautiful photo of a condor above the High Peaks, you couldÂ
submit it in both the ‘‘Wildlife’’ and ‘‘Scenic’’ categories. Please submit photos in the largest sizeÂ
possible.Â
Â
Every photo entry that the parks receive as part of the contest becomes the parks’ property. The parksÂ
will have non-exclusive, unlimited use of the photo(s). Use of these photo(s) shall include, but is notÂ
limited to, audiovisual programs; museum exhibits; websites; publications; news releases; publicÂ
service announcements; internal communication; and product artwork. Additionally, you waive theÂ
right to inspect or approve any use of the material and any right to royalties or other compensationÂ
arising or related to the use of the material. We will provide photo credit when the park determines itÂ
practicable. A high-resolution version of winning photo(s) must be emailed to the park contestÂ
coordinator. You still own the photo and may use it however you see fit.Â
Â
This contest is open to legal residents of the United States, 18 years or older. Federal government employeesÂ
who currently work in Pinnacles National Park and their family members are excluded from participating inÂ
the contest.Â
 Prizes are as follows:Â
• Grand Prize (Either Category): The photo will be used for the 2015 Pinnacles Annual PassÂ
with recognition for the photographer. The photographer will also receive a 2015 Pass.Â

How to Submit a Photo:Â
Â
You can submit your photo(s) saved as .jpg to paul_marsell@partner.nps.gov or saved to a CD and mailed toÂ
Pinnacles National Park Interpretation, 5000 Highway 146, Paicines, CA 95043. Please include “2014 PhotoÂ
Contest Entry.” Any photo that does not say “2015 Photo Contest Entry” will not be considered. WeÂ
currently receive photos from our fans for fun. The ‘‘2015 Photo Contest Entry’’ tells us that you haveÂ
read and understand these contest rules, intend to have your photo be part of the contest, andÂ
understand that every photo submission that the park receives as part of the contest becomes the park’sÂ
property. Also include either an email address or phone number for mail entries so that you may beÂ
contacted if you are a winner.Â
Â
How Can I Vote for the Fan Favorite?Â
Â
The park staff will set up a Facebook Photo Contest Album for the contest and fans can ‘‘Like’’ as manyÂ
photos as they want. The photos uploaded to be judged for Fan Favorite will be chosen by park staffÂ
based on quality and appropriateness for our Facebook page. The photo from this album with the mostÂ
likes directly on it, not including likes other places where that photo has been shared, will win the FanÂ
Favorite.Â
Â
Pinnacles Pass Photo Judging:Â
Â
The winners will be selected by a committee comprised of relevant park staff including experiencedÂ
photographers. The photos will be judged based on overall quality and aesthetic appeal as well asÂ
appropriateness for the category. The winner will be notified by email to the address from which theÂ
photo was submitted or by the method provided for mail entries. If the winner does not respond withinÂ
15 days then they forfeit the prize and the runner-up will receive it.Â
