The BenitoLink Pledge of Champions climbs to $17,600, all donated by individual community members. Join in and make a difference! Thanks to NewsMatch and local major donors, personal and small business donations up to $1,000 will be doubled (up to $50,000). NewsMatch is made up of a group of foundations helping to re-build local news by supporting nonprofit news websites like BenitoLink.

“Local communities are weaker without robust news ecosystems. Civic engagement declines, public financing costs more, and residents no longer get the information they need to understand critical issues, make good decisions and hold elected officials to account.

A movement is underway to revitalize local news across the country in an effort to better inform Americans, building relationships of trust between news organizations and their communities to shut out misinformation and disinformation.”

                                                         The Austin Chronicle

Every week, BenitoLink receives payment offers for “sponsored content” or paid articles written on a specific topic with embedded internet links that are often selling a product or specific perspective. We are pounded by spam bots trying to use our site for their message. BenitoLink does not accept sponsored content and reviews everything we publish.

However, many newspapers, websites and magazines do accept sponsored content because they want the financial support that comes with it.

The BenitoLink team’s primary interest is to serve the residents of San Benito County and be a trusted news source. All content on BenitoLink, including news articles, feature stories, law enforcement reports, community opinions and nonprofit stories are reviewed prior to publishing. We do not and will not accept sponsored content.

A healthy, local news environment with a variety of information sources is critical to small counties and towns like San Benito County, Hollister and San Juan Bautista. Social media cannot provide the fact-checking and research our informed readers need. Make a commitment to BenitoLink so we can continue to provide the community with honest news and in-depth reporting on local government, economic development and other topics important to our region.
