Hollister Police Chief David Westrick broadcasted a live-streaming town hall-style meeting with virtual Q&A from community members on Friday, Feb. 5 using the Periscope App available for Android and iOS devices.

Dressed in a San Franciswco Giants fan jersey and ball cap, Hollister’s top cop utilized the popular high-tech smartphone app to broadcast in high definition video to the public from his kitchen to talk about upcoming community events, police operations and announced the registration period for the second season of the Junior Giants — the free community baseball program sponsored by the San Benito County Police Activities League (PAL). The league, which is open to children ages 5-18 years old, attracted more than 500 kids in Hollister in its first season last year.

Westrick seemed comfortable and at ease with the casual agenda he broadcasted to the public, reporting good news about many of the positive community events he enjoys participating in as a community leader. The 25-minute broadcast touched on many of the annual community events that maintain the culture and character of the community.
