To the beat of “Let’s Go GIANTS” pulsing through Oracle Park in San Francisco on May 11, laughs and easy banter could be heard in Section 141 from the Rancho San Justo Middle School staff, their friends and families.
Social Science teacher Laura Collier organized this year’s outing. She said the tradition of attending one Giants game per season as a group has been going for at least five years since she started at Rancho San Justo.
“It’s fun, we tailgate before and are here all day,” Collier said. “We are pretty close as a staff, so to be able to come out and do this together is special.”
Rosa Sanchez, who also teaches at the school, shared Collier’s sentiment and said, “We’re more than just coworkers, we’re a family and these outings help us solidify that bond.”
This year’s group was 35 strong, with one family bringing their 4-year-old son to his first Giants game. The group also included lifelong friends and teachers from San Benito High School.
“This is a family-oriented event,” Collier said.
Such a warm dynamic led to easy laughter while the group passed around black licorice and threw peanuts. They chanted “Throw it back!” as the Cincinnati Reds hit a homerun into the stands near where the group was seated behind the outfield.
“For me this is the most fun event of the year,” Collier said.
