Record 18th Annual Robert Miller Memorial Poker Run

Record proceeds raised for CALSTAR Children's program at 18th Annual Robert Miller Memorial Poker Run

On New Year’s Day, 180 dirt bike riders headed to the Hollister Hills SVRA to take part in the 18th Annual Robert Miller Memorial Poker Run.  Each participant rode the course, picking up cards hoping to make a winning poker hand.  The many wonderful prizes, donated by local business owners, ranged from bike parts and apparel to a one-year pass to Hollister Hills.

Proceeds from entrance fees, donations, and the auction brought in a record $6000 for CALSTAR’s children’s program.  The program provides children with air ambulance services regardless of their parent’s ability to pay.

Volunteers from many agencies, including CA State Park Volunteers, San Benito County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and San Benito County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, staffed the five trail stops, and helped participants enjoy themselves while keeping them safe.

I work as a Mathematics and Science tutor, and as an Event Coordinator for the Discovery Classic bicycle event. Like most people, I wear multiple hats; my other chapeaus include photographer, graphic designer, writer, and book editor. Then when I'm not working, I volunteer on Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team as a communications specialist. I also run a group that trains and licenses amateur radio operators.
