San Benito County Public Health Services, in collaboration with the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of San Benito County, is proud to announce a community event with Dr. Nils Bergman, a world-renowned expert in newborn infant neuroscience, on July 23 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital and San Juan Oaks Golf and Country Club.

Dr. Nils Bergman, a Swedish specialist in perinatal neuroscience, is one of the founders of Kangaroo Mother Care and promoter of skin-to-skin contact between mother and newborn upon birth. His method has shown significant increases in survival rates of premature and very low birth weight babies and supports bonding, secure attachment, and breastfeeding.

Dr. Bergman brings his expertise to San Benito County in three sessions. He starts with Grand Rounds early on the morning of July 23 at the hospital labor and delivery unit with its doctors and nurses. Next, he will facilitate an educational summit for medical professionals from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at San Juan Oaks.

His last session is for parents and takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital Support Services Building, Second Floor – Great Room. Here he will share simple baby bonding and development support techniques that parents can practice throughout their babies’ infancy. All parents and families with infants and newborns are welcome to attend this community event, free of charge.
