About 8:450pm on Friday night a fire broke out in the Ridgemark Realty building on San Benito Street in downtown Hollister.
Residents of a nearby apartment building smelled smoke and saw flames coming from the center of the building. As they were moving automobiles out of harm's way, they said they could feel the heat inside their vehicles. They reported that the flames went from about 7 feet high to 50 feet in less than 5 minutes.
Hollister Fire Department was joined by Gilroy Fire and others in fighting the fire and were able to contain the damage to the one building.
