On April 28, the Rotary Club of Hollister had the honor of hosting seven members from our International Service Partner Club of Illorin, Nigeria. In 2014, Area 6 clubs (which include Hollister, San Juan Bautista, Gilroy, Gilroy Sunrise, Morgan Hill and Almaden Valley) funded and supplied several portable ultrasound machines and heart monitors, in a maternal wing of the Egbe Hospital, in a remote part of Nigeria. Â
This project has resulted in prenatal healthcare and saved lives in an area that did not have access to this kind of care anywhere nearby prior to this partnership. Â Our Nigerian friends came to express their gratitude and also to attend the Rotary District Conference held that weekend in San Ramon.
Â
The Illorin Rotarians started their day by attending the Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista’s weekly breakfast meeting, followed by a tour of the San Juan Mission. Then the Illorin Rotarians headed to Hollister, where they were given a tour of Chamberlain’s Children Center and Keith Thompson Non Public School. Several Hollister Rotarians joined the group for a wonderful lunch at Ridgemark Golf & Country Club.Â
After lunch, the Illorin group completed their day in Hollister with a guided tour of Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital.
