Pacific Gas and Electric invited the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce to bring a group of community members to tour the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. The group of 14 including staff, Chamber members and others from the community traveled by bus. The first stop was the PG&E Education Center in San Luis Obispo, where the group was met by tour guides Eric Daniels and Diana Turk.
After a video presentation that included information on the types of energy PG&E supplies, the difference between renewable and clean energy and what falls under these categories, and the workings of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant, there was time to look at some of the displays including one that allows you to power a light bulb by bicycle.
Next, the group traveled to the power plant in Avila Beach, where they were able to get a closer look at the inner workings of the plant. The tour included a simulator of the control room, the area where the turbines are housed and the entry and exit points of the water used in the cooling system.
Next was a stop at a local winery for lunch before the return trip to Hollister. The Chamber and all those who attended would like to thank PG&E for sponsoring this interesting and educational trip and Eric and Diana for being fun and gracious tour guides.
