The San Benito Fire Safe Council (SBFSC) is recruiting additional members to join its board and is inviting community members to apply.
The SBFSC would like to add members and would particularly like to ensure membership representation from the Hollister Fire Department, Cal Fire, or other individuals with experience in firefighting or other first-responder responsibilities.
Additionally, the SBFSC requests volunteer assistance in areas of grant writing, I.T. support, Firewise community support and project management. Please let the organization know if any residents or local organizations’ members might be interested in volunteering. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
As the organization expands outreach, the SBFSC is launching an email outreach campaign to develop additional Firewise communities. As part of this effort, the group is compiling an email distribution list for the campaign.

The San Benito Fire Safe Council (SBFSC) is launching a county-wide campaign to increase the number of Firewise USA® communities. Firewise communities are neighborhood-level groups that work together to reduce wildfire risks—boosting both safety and resilience.
Why join or start a Firewise community?
● Learn how to identify wildfire risks around your home and property—and make a prioritized plan to reduce them.
● Work with neighbors to address shared risks, such as overgrown roadsides or common spaces.
● Enjoy potential home insurance benefits offered by some providers to homes in recognized Firewise communities.
While Monterey County has nearly 60 Firewise communities, San Benito county has just four. We believe we can – and should – do more to protect our homes and neighborhoods.
We’re asking for your help:
● Are you interested in learning more about Firewise communities and how they
work?
● Would you like your property included in a Firewise community?
● Would you be willing to help organize one in your neighborhood?
Register your interest in Firewise Community membership here.
This form will help us connect you with others nearby and provide support in organizing
or joining a Firewise community.
Please also forward this message to friends, family, and neighbors. Together, we can make San Benito County more fire-resilient—one neighborhood at a time.
